Consumers buy into “buy local”

farmersmarket“…for every $100 spent at a locally owned store, $45 remains in the local economy, compared with about $13 per $100 spent at a big box…”

Although the aspect of saving local jobs is debatable, studies show pretty clearly that more money stays locally when you shop local. Unfortunately now many chain/box stores are promoting themselves as “local”.

Maybe I am wrong but I have never seen a Wal-Mart store closed that didn’t move into a bigger building. Let’s reduce the unemployment rate, buy local and see small businesses hire more people and the big box guys can stay in the smaller store.
