A positive message
It’s compelling in these tough economic times to see a national article about a neighboring city that is creating jobs and increasing it’s tax revenue to boot. Voting for alcohol in currently dry towns or counties may prove to be controversial but from an economic development standpoint the argument for it appears strong. Last year Danville voted with 57% in favor to go “wet” and the economic impact was felt immediately. “The vote had an instant impact,” said executive director of Danville’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Adam Johnson in the Imbibe article. “It has greatly added to our tourism while giving locals another reason to stay close to home.” Will Berea eventually decide that voting in favor of alcohol sales in some form or fashion is pro-jobs, pro-entrepreneur and pro-tourism? It will be interesting to see, though it won’t be hard to imagine, how the issue is framed from those on either side of the issue in the coming months…
More to come.
